Obstetrical and Neonatal Education for Region 4 Health Care Providers
The Mid-Coastal California Perinatal Outreach Program (MCCPOP) is located in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine at Stanford University. MCCPOP collaborates closely with Charles B. and Ann L. Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH). The Johnson Center is a comprehensive clinical service line, which includes obstetrical and neonatal services. Consolidation of these services has been instrumental in strengthening LPCH's ability to offer integrated and synergistic family-centered service.
Services overview
MCCPOP provides obstetrical and neonatal education to healthcare providers in Region 4. The staff at MCCPOP feel the following values are critical components in the care of pregnant women and infants. We strive to include these concepts in all educational programs and offerings:
- Evidence-based clinical practice integrating research and national standards into bedside practice
- Multidisciplinary team training
- Family-centered care
- Patient safety
- Use of technology to enhance educational programs and maintain connections with community providers
Educational opportunities at local hospitals include lectures, journal clubs, workshops, attendance at selected Morbidity and Mortality conferences, Peer reviews and an annual conference "Perinatal Potpourri" that features Stanford faculty and national speakers outside of Region 4.
Other services provided by MCCPOP include site visits to review compliance with state regulations, a quarterly networking meeting for nursing leaders, preceptorships at LPCH for healthcare professionals and 24 hour a day/7 days a week consultation services with providers at LPCH and Stanford University Hospital.
